Brand new voltage stabiliser for all VW T3, T4, LT and MKI Caddy.
Now, there’s a few of gotchas here, so read on, absorb and understand before you mail us telling us that they don’t work!
The voltage regulator/stabiliser for the fuel gauge and temperature gauges for the T3, LT and Caddy is no longer available in the original style, it’s a pretty old, obsolete design.
It has been replaced by a modern version but as usual the modern version isn’t quite the same…
The early version that fits the Caddy 1, LT1 and T3 was VW No 171 919 803 [See figure 1.], That became obsolete and was replced by VW No 357 919 803 [See figure 2], this fits the T4, it is basically a 171 919 803 where the outer 2 pins functions are swapped.
That means that we can supply and sell a regulator that does the job of 171 919 803 and 357 919 803 simply by fitting in the right way up or upside down with the use of a small spacer bush [See figure 3].
This item is pretty inexpensive so you have a certain amount of fiddling about to get it to fit.
1. On T3, LT1 and Caddy 1 The unit is mounted upside down as compared to the original. [Fig. 3]
2. The legs need bending into place to meet the receptacle for the legs.
3. The 2 black plastic lugs on the instrument panel that locate the original unit need cutting back flush.
4. The mounting hole is tight, we suggest giving it a gentle tickle with a 3.2mm drill (that’s 1/8″ for you older ones)
You can think of this another way, the early regulator is no longer available but the regulator for the T4 is however to fit a T4 regulator to a T3, LT1 or a Caddy 1 then you’ve to fit it upside down
If you don’t accept the above, don’t buy!
