Precision engineered ali-bronze gear to be bonded to your original drive shaft.
Remove damaged plastic gear with a hacksaw or sharp knife (shaft is hardened) and remove all traces of plastic within the shaft knurling.
Degrease new pinion and shaft with brake cleaner (not gasolene) and scrub with a clean brush.
Check that shaft fits easily into pinion bore and bottoms out.
Remove shaft from pinion.
Liberally coat shaft knurl and end with high strength/high temp retaining compound e.g. Loctite 638 or equivalent, and fit into pinion.
Remove excess compound and allow to cure before refitting.
Proper degreasing is essential for a good bond between shaft and pinion.
Owners should satisfy themselves that the speedo pinion is of the correct ratio before fitting, since the driving worm wheels fitted to various differential units are of different diameters and will fail to mesh properly with the incorrect pinion. This will cause immediate or premature failure.
Use of inferior or expired retaining compounds may result in the pinion slipping.
It is essential to check that the pinion shaft is free running inside its alloy bearing sleeve. If found to be tight, notchy or "digital", the seal should be removed from the sleeve and the bore resized with a sharp 10.0mm reamer.
