After looking for a rack for one of our own vehicles and finding all the available options were compromises made up of components of kits for other vehicles, we started looking at having a rack manufactured to our own spec.
We came across a UK company (FlatDog UK) who had already put in the leg work and developed their own system for manufacturing a number of different styles of rack and are currently making their own fully welded racks for a number of vehicles, so we approached them to see if they could make something to suit all our needs and at a relatively good price when compared to some of the imported racks out there.
This UK manufactured rack is made from lightweight aluminium, is fully welded and has a durable black powdercoat.
We’ve gone for 5 feet down each side to spread the load over the length of the gutters as much as possible.
Rather than using feet designed for another vehicle these have been sized and manufactured specifically for this application to set the rack at the perfect height for clearance whilst still allowing access to the bottom of the rack to attach accessories.
The rack uses a T-slot system to allow loads of accessories such as roof tents, boxes, water carriers or just about anything else you can imagine needing to be attached quickly and easily.
The rack is designed to maximise the available length whilst at the same time allowing the air hitting the front of the vehicle to travel upwards without hitting the front of the rack which greatly reduces wind noise and helps keep the drag down.
There is also a wind deflector mounted under the front of the rack to further reduce wind noise.
We sell these on a collection only basis direct from their factory and store in Lincolnshire where they will also fit the rack by pre-arranged appointment.
Due to the size of this rack there is no shipping option available.
Please allow 3-4 weeks for the rack to be manufactured, although FlatDog tell us they will try to keep one in stock at all times this may not always be possible.
