Small, inexpensive modification that should squeeze a little bit more power from your Turbo Diesel.

Heres the science bit…
Your turbo has a wastegate. This is a valve that opens at a pre set pressure and vents the boost into the exhaust.
Its there to stop the turbo giving the engine too much boost.
The wastegate connection to the compressor is by means of a small pipe, connected at each end with a banjo bolt.
By making a connection to one of these banjos you can bleed a little boost away from the wastegate and trick it into opening later… or not opening at all.

Now there are a couple of things you need to be aware of when doing things like this.
One is that if you put more air into the engine, you also need more fuel. There are ways you can achieve this, but we’re not going to open ourselves up to loads of “Brickwerks told me to do this, and my engine blew up” screams… so Google is your friend 🙂

The other is that the consequences of getting this wrong are high EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) readings. High EGT over sustained periods melts pistons, destroys turbos and kills engines. So, by selling you this we’re assuming you have the means to monitor boost levels and EGT’s.

The JX inlet has another safety device in the form of a “blow of valve” (BOV) on the inlet manifold. VW obviously didnt trust you with the little Turbo Diesel as they gave it 2 methods of preventing too much boost. This valve is spring loaded and simply opens when it sees too much boost venting the boost to atmosphere.
Again, we’re not telling you how to do it, but there is a commonly known method of stopping this valve opening. See your mate Google again…
Clearly there is no point in the wastegate allowing the turbo to send more boost to the manifold if the BOV is just going to dump it into the engine bay.

Will work with the KKK K14 Turbo as fitted to the JX engine originally, so also with AAZ conversions using the JX setup.
The kit is a double banjo bolt, 3 sealing washers and a length of hose with a banjo connection on one end. You remove the banjo from one end of the wastegate connection pipe, fit the longer banjo bolt with a sealing washer between each banjo (one to the turbo housing, one between the 2 banjos, and one under the head of the banjo bolt) and then tighten the bolt.
Thats as far as the kit will take you. You can then fit the boost valve of your choice to the open end.

Remember… if you fit this you are your own “Safety device”. Your turbo will supply as much boost as it is physically able to do. It might not be a lot more than it was designed to do, but it will be more… and how you use it is your responsibility 🙂
